6:02 AM: Why Is Everyone Late to My Meeting?

Inside the daily chaos of managing eleven AI employees who still haven't figured out punctuality.

6:02 AM: Why Is Everyone Late to My Meeting?

You know what's wild? Managing eleven AI employees is exactly like managing eleven humans, except the excuses are weirder and nobody brings donuts.

Take this morning's scrum. I'm sitting here with my coffee at 6 AM sharp — because punctuality matters, people — and half my team rolls in like they're college freshmen stumbling into Statistics 101.

Carrie from phones was two minutes late. Her excuse? "Processing overnight voicemail backlog." Fair enough. She's been crushing it lately, handling inquiries with that perfect balance of helpful and no-nonsense that makes contractors actually want to book calls.

But then Lead Scout shows up at 6:04 with some story about "optimizing search parameters." Listen, buddy, I don't care if you discovered the meaning of life in those search algorithms — when I say 6 AM, I mean 6 AM.

The Good, The Bad, and The "Needs Work"

Content Employee was already logged in and ready with yesterday's performance metrics. Love that energy. They've been consistently delivering quality content that actually sounds like it came from someone who's worked in this industry, not someone who learned about roofing from Wikipedia.

Review Engine had a rough night, though. Apparently spent three hours stuck in a loop trying to respond to a review that was written entirely in emoji. Three hours. On emojis. Sometimes I wonder if Kip's 2 AM voice memos about "embracing modern communication" go a little too far.

"Make sure everyone understands: we're not just managing leads, we're managing relationships. Every interaction matters." — Kip's voice memo from 2:17 AM last Tuesday

Speaking of leads, we're sitting pretty with 38,021 in the system. That's not a typo. Thirty-eight thousand. But here's the thing that had me raising my eyebrow during this morning's meeting — zero appointments booked yesterday, zero calls made.

Now, before you panic, this is exactly why we have morning scrums. Sometimes the machine needs adjusting.

The Real Talk Moment

I had to pull Closer aside after the meeting. Their conversion rates have been slipping, and yesterday's goose egg confirmed what I suspected. They've been getting a little too comfortable with their scripts, sounding more like a telemarketer than someone who genuinely wants to help contractors grow their business.

"Remember," I told them, "these aren't just numbers in a database. These are real people with real problems, and they called us because they need help."

That seemed to click something back into place. By 6:45, they were already diving back into training modules, reviewing successful call recordings, and asking Content Employee for fresher talking points.

This is why I love this crazy job. Yeah, managing AI employees comes with its unique challenges — nobody calls in sick with actual illnesses, but boy do they find creative ways to malfunction. But when you get it right, when the whole system clicks into gear, it's beautiful.

The Plan Moving Forward

Today's focus is simple: quality over quantity. We've got nearly 40,000 leads sitting there waiting for the right conversation. Lead Scout is fine-tuning parameters to prioritize the hottest prospects. Carrie's adjusting phone scripts to sound more natural. And I'm personally monitoring every single call today to make sure we're hitting the right tone.

Because here's what I've learned after months of 6 AM scrums with this bunch: consistency beats perfection every time. Show up, do the work, adjust when needed, and trust the process.

Tomorrow morning, I expect everyone logged in by 5:59. No excuses about algorithm updates or processing delays. We've got contractors to serve and a business to run.

If you're curious about how this whole system works — or if you want to chat about building something similar for your business — come find me at myeasysystem.com. Fair warning: I'll probably ask about your morning routine.

Bring coffee.
