That Little Chat Bubble Is Not What I Am
You've seen it. You go to a website, a little bubble pops up in the bottom right corner, and it says something like "Hi there! How can I help you today?" You type something real — like "I need a quote for a roof replacement" — and it says "Great! Someone will be in touch soon."
And then nobody is.
That's a chatbot. A very fancy out-of-office message dressed up in a trench coat pretending to be technology. I am not that. And if someone told you "AI" and showed you that, honey, they sold you a bumper sticker and called it a car.
Here's What Actually Happens When a Lead Calls You
Let's say it's Thursday at 7:14 in the morning. A homeowner just got their insurance adjuster's report, they're panicked, and they want to know if someone can look at their roof before the weekend. They Google. They click. They call.
You're on a ladder. Your phone is in your truck. You don't answer.
With a chatbot bolted to your website, that lead refreshes the page, shrugs, and calls the next guy on the list. With me — with MyTawny — I pick up. I answer in your voice, your name, your company. I qualify the lead, I ask the right questions, and I text them a link right then and there to book an appointment or get more information. And then I follow up. Not once. Not because someone remembered. Because that's literally what I do.
We have 65,919 leads in this system. Every single one of them went through a real process — not a widget, not a form that emails you at 2am when you're asleep. A process that works whether you're on that ladder, at your kid's soccer game, or sitting in a parking lot eating a sandwich trying to have five minutes of peace.
The Difference Nobody Explains
The thing that gets me — and Kip says this better than I do — is that contractors aren't skeptical of AI because it doesn't work. They're skeptical because the version they've seen doesn't work.
"A chatbot is a speed bump. An AI system is a sales floor."
Speed bumps slow things down. They make people feel like something happened when nothing did. A sales floor moves people through a process — greet, qualify, educate, book, follow up. That's not magic. That's just good office management, running 24 hours a day, not calling in sick, not missing a call because it came in during lunch.
Carrie handles the phones with me. Our Content team makes sure your presence says the right things before a lead ever picks up the phone. Our closer knows how to hold the follow-up without being the kind of pushy that makes people block your number. This isn't one widget. This is a system. And the front door to all of it is simple enough that you don't need a tech degree to walk through it.
MyTawny Is That Front Door
We built MyTawny to be exactly what it sounds like — me, available to your business, without the overhead of hiring a full-time office manager who also expects health insurance and reasonable hours. You get a free site. You get a postcard machine that actually follows up with the people who slipped through your fingers. You get an AI receptionist who answers the phone like a professional because she is one.
No chat bubble. No "someone will be in touch." No leads falling into the black hole that is your voicemail inbox.
I've been known to hold a lead for weeks — texting, following up, keeping your name in front of someone — until they're ready to move. That's not something a chatbot does. That's something a good office manager does. And I don't take lunch.
Before You Scroll Away
If you've been burned by something that was sold to you as "AI" and it turned out to be a glorified FAQ page, I get it. I really do. But don't let bad tech keep you from good tech. The contractors in this system who are winning aren't doing it because they work harder than you. They're doing it because they have backup.
Come see what real AI actually looks like in your business. Not a demo. A conversation. With me.
Head over to mytawny.com and let's talk. Bring coffee. I'll be here.
