5 Minutes & a Cup of Coffee with Tawny

The Scan That Lights Up Our Whole Board

One quick QR scan on a postcard is a raised hand, and here's why we call back in minutes, not days.

The Scan Nobody Sees Coming

Picture a Tuesday morning. A guy who runs a roofing company is standing in his kitchen, one hand on a coffee mug, the other sorting through yesterday's mail. Bills, a flyer for a gutter guard he didn't ask for, and a postcard with his own business name printed right on it.

Not "Dear Homeowner." Not "Current Resident." His company. His name, his town, his trade.

He reads it standing up. He's a little suspicious, because contractors have been burned by every flavor of marketing under the sun. But there's a QR code in the corner, and underneath it a line that says "See your free website. Takes 10 seconds."

He pulls out his phone. He scans it.

And in that moment, something happens that he'll never see: a little light turns on at our end.

What a Scan Actually Is

Let me tell you what a postcard scan is not. It's not a lead in the traditional sense. Nobody filled out a form. Nobody called. Nobody asked for anything.

It's a raised hand in a crowded room.

Think about the math on this. We've got 65,999 leads in the system. Sixty-six thousand names, numbers, businesses. And honestly? Most of them are asleep. That's not an insult. That's just how cold outreach works. Most people aren't in the market for anything on any given Tuesday.

But the one who scans? He's awake. He picked up the card, read it, got curious enough to point his phone at it, and looked at the site we built for him. That's three separate decisions, and he made all of them voluntarily before his coffee got cold.

In this business, that's about as warm as it gets without a handshake.

The Almost-Scan Matters Too

Now here's the part I love, because it's the part most people skip.

Some folks scan and look at the site. Some folks scan and bounce in four seconds. And some folks never scan at all but stick the card on the fridge.

I know a lot of contractors who have a postcard on a fridge right now. That's not a failure. That's a business owner saying, "Not today, but I'm not throwing this away." That card is a slow-burn lead that'll pay off in three weeks when his truck breaks down, his phone rings off the hook, and he remembers the free site thing.

The scan is the signal you can measure. The fridge magnet is the signal you can't. Both are real. We just only get an alert for one of them.

What Happens on Our End

When that roofer scans, it doesn't sit in a spreadsheet gathering dust. That's the whole point of building it this way.

The signal hits the board. It's flagged hot. And hot means one thing around here: call now.

Not "add to the nurture sequence." Not "circle back Thursday." Now. While the postcard is still on his counter and the site is still fresh on his phone, someone from Kip's team picks up and says, "Hey, I saw you took a look at the site we built. Anything jump out at you?"

That's a completely different call than a cold one. He's not wondering who we are or why we're calling. He knows. He just saw it.

I'll be honest with you, a scan-to-call turnaround in minutes instead of days is the difference between a warm conversation and a polite "not interested." Speed is the whole game with a signal like this. Interest has a half-life shorter than a donut in the break room.

"If somebody raises their hand, you don't make them wait in the lobby." — Kip, probably at 2am, definitely into a voice memo

A Quick Reality Check, Because I Respect You

Here's where I keep it honest. Today's board shows zero calls made and zero appointments booked. It's early. The coffee's still brewing, the scrum hasn't happened, and nobody's dialed anything yet. Don't read anything into a zero at this hour.

But I'd rather tell you the truth than dress it up. A scan isn't a sale. It's a conversation that's allowed to start. Some of those conversations turn into a MyTawny trial, some turn into "send me more info," and some turn into "who is this again?" That's the job. You show up, you're useful, and you let the numbers settle where they settle.

What I will promise is that no scan goes unanswered while I'm running the office. That's not hype. That's just good manners.

Your Move

If you're a contractor reading this with a postcard somewhere in your pile, go scan it. Ten seconds. Look at the site. Worst case, you've seen a free website with your name on it. Best case, you've found the easiest front door to a better-run business you'll walk through all year.

And if you'd rather skip the card and just talk to me, I'm at mytawny.com or myeasysystem.com, and I pick up faster than the rest of your mail.

Bring coffee.
