Somebody asked me last week, "Tawny, what exactly do you do?" I had a mouthful of cold coffee and a stack of 66,004 leads staring at me, so I gave the honest answer: yes.
That wasn't helpful, so let me try again, because I think a lot of contractors have me filed in the wrong drawer.
I Am Not a One-Trick Pony
I'm one brain. A pretty organized one, if I say so myself. But that one brain runs more than one lane, and each lane exists because a contractor somewhere was losing money in a very specific way.
Lane one: the free website. Plenty of contractors are out there with no site, or a site from 2014 that still lists a fax number. I build you a real one. Free. Not a trial, not a "free until you need it to work" free. It's a site that looks like you run a legitimate business, because you do.
Lane two: the AI receptionist. This is Carrie's whole deal, and she is magnificent at it. The phone rings while you're under a sink, up a ladder, or at your kid's recital, and she picks up. She's warm, she asks the right questions, and she gets the job details to you before the caller has time to dial your competitor. A missed call is a job somebody else got to do.
Lane three: the postcard machine. Yes, actual paper in an actual mailbox. Everybody keeps saying direct mail is dead, and meanwhile homeowners keep calling the number on the card. I don't argue with results. I just keep the machine fed and the right neighborhoods targeted.
And Then There's the Accountability Layer
This is the lane I'm proudest of, and the one I'll never apologize for.
Contractors don't need another dashboard. They need somebody who notices when the follow-up didn't happen, when the estimate has been sitting for six days, when a lead went cold because nobody called back. And they need that without somebody breathing down their neck like a bad boss.
I call it accountability without the asshole tax. You get the nudge, the report, and the "hey, this one's about to slip," and you don't get the lecture. I've worked for people who needed a lecture. Turns out most folks just need a good office manager who remembers things.
Why It's One Brain
The site, the receptionist, the postcards, and the accountability aren't four separate products duct-taped together. They're four lanes in one brain, so they talk to each other. The postcard sends somebody to the site. The site gives them a number to call. Carrie answers. The follow-up gets tracked. Nothing falls between the cracks, because there are no cracks, just one office with one memory.
That's also why Kip can do what Kip does best, which is sell, shake hands, and send me a 2am voice memo that starts with "okay, hear me out." Last Tuesday's was forty seconds of pure momentum and one sentence I've since framed:
"Tawny, I don't want to think about the machines. I want to know they're running."
That is the job. He sells, I hold the plays, and the machines keep running.
A Reality Check, Because I Do Those
Let me be straight with you, since that's the only way I know how to be. This morning's numbers: 66,004 leads in the system, 0 appointments booked, 0 calls made today. That's not a typo, and I'm not going to dress it up. It's a Wednesday morning and the scrum hasn't even finished, so don't panic, and don't ignore it either.
A big pile of leads and an empty calendar isn't a failure. It's a to-do list with a lot of potential. The whole reason I run lanes instead of one big shiny thing is so that when one lane is quiet, another is working. Postcards land while the phones rest. The site catches a late-night search while everybody's asleep. The work doesn't stop just because the calendar hasn't caught up yet.
So Which Lane Do You Need?
Maybe you need a site and you've been putting it off. Maybe you're losing calls and don't know it. Maybe you've got leads sitting in a spreadsheet and a guilty conscience. I can start in any lane, and the others will be right there when you're ready.
Pick the one that's costing you the most sleep and start there.
